A sports office was established in 1983 by the Government of Anguilla.  It was managed by a sports officer within the Department of Community and Welfare until 1998.  During that time the administration of sports and sports facilities was undertaken by the sole officer. In 2004, the Government established the Sports Department, which was staffed with a Director and a secretary.  Other human resources in the department included two (2) primary school physical education teachers and two (2) grounds men.
